My son starts preschool next week, so the class moms decided to get the kids together for a play date to get them ready for the time they will be spending together this school year. The location for the play date happened to be at 70th St and West End Avenue...about 3.6 miles round trip from my apartment, so I thought what a great opportunity to get a run in, finally! Pushing 50+ pounds of child, jogger and everything but the kitchen sink for said child. What.a.workout. I was glad to get a run in, but I am so incredibly sore from the effort. Pregnancy is telling on me.

Harlem 5k Race: Canceled
This morning was supposed to be my fifth race of this pregnancy, in my sixth month, a 5k fundraiser to benefit Harlem programs. In a total weather anomaly for this area, the race was canceled due to a hurricane (yes, hurricane) that is set to hit NYC tomorrow morning. Fabulous, on both accounts. So I won't be running the race today, however I have every intention of running the race on my own in the next week or so to make up for it. Stay tuned.

Errands
Had some errands to run, but not really time to "run" ironically, so I logged 2.5 miles of walking today and checked off my to do list.

Walk to Church
Haven't gotten a run in yet since we've been back in the City, but did manage to walk to church and back this morning, which is 3 miles. I will take that.

Last Summer Streets
Today was the last of the summer streets program for NYC this year, so we decided to once again take advantage of the closed down Park Avenue. We biked all the way down to 23rd street, partook in the Whole Foods Family Picnic (read free samples), and then biked over the Greenway to park our bikes. We wanted to walk the newest section of the High Line.
As we reached the end of the High Line, we noticed down below a few food trucks (all the rage in NY these days). Upon closer inspection, we had discovered a beer garden and food truck venue that, turns out, had an ice.cream.sandwich.truck. Heaven. I got a sandwich with red velvet cookies and balsamic fig ice cream, and my husband enjoyed waffle cone cookies with bacon butter ice cream. Our son enjoyed a little of both! What a great way to wrap up Summer Streets. We licked our fingers and headed back to bike home, a round trip of 10 miles!

And We're Back...
Today I unpacked from our trip, which we returned from last night. As predicted, I was able to transfer my neatly folded, untouched running clothes right back into the drawer. We had a fabulous vacation, but I did not run a single step. Today, I managed 2.5 miles of walking to ease back into running. These days after I take several days (or a week, whatever) off, it takes longer to get back into running since I am literally heavier and bigger by the week.

New Hampshire Bound
We are leaving this morning, for vacation, which means some time cramped in the car...shockingly, I got up early this morning to get a run in to kick off vacation...2 running outlets firmly packed in my bag for the trip. This am I clipped off 3.5 miles.

Vaca is Coming
We are leaving for a week long vacation in New Hampshire in a few days, which means I will pack 2-3 running outfits for the trip and use exactly none of them. So. I am trying to get some good mileage in before the trip...today a run of the mill 3 miler. Vacation, here we come!

Picnic Run
I decided to take my son out on a picnic today, so we ran there of course! My husband met us there after work and we enjoyed the shade while the kiddo played. I ran my son home, then handed him off to the hubs and kept running for a total of 2.5 miles. It was quite hot and humid today, so I will take that.

XT: Bike, Summer Streets
I volunteered at a race this morning in Central Park, then my husband, son and I headed over to Park Avenue on our bikes for the annual Summer Streets program. We biked 10 miles all the way down to the Brooklyn Bridge, then caught the subway back home. I was pretty tired after all of that biking, but it was a great chance to get some cross training in and see the City...it's rare that I can cover that much of the City these days being nearly 6 months pregnant :)

Favor Run
My sister is moving to the City so I offered to go see a potential apartment for her...on the Upper East Side...I live on the Upper West Side. We made it a family outing and racked up 3.7 miles! I was surprised when I got home and mapped it out. I feel obliged to also mention that the East Side is very hilly. Very.

To the Playground!
I ran my son over to a playground about a mile and a half away this morning...and ran back home. So 3 miles for today, pushing 50+ pounds. Whew.
