And that Makes 25

We took our son out to the Hudson River again today, for a nice 3 mile round trip run. This puts me at an even 25 miles for the month of July. This is about 20 miles less than I have been averaging since I got pregnant, but considering all that happened in July I think this is great. I went back and reviewed my running logs for 2008-2009 when I had my son and in fact I averaged 20-25 miles per month maximum during that pregnancy, so I am doing really well in fact. Here's to being able to keep it up!

Run for Central Park: Simulation

Since I missed my race a couple of weeks ago due to the kidney stones (which btw have not passed but are not hurting me anymore), I decided at some point I wanted to run the race course anyway...I won't get credit for running the race in terms of the 9+1 requirement, BUT I will get to count it towards my races run during the pregnancy. In fact, I even saved my race bib.

So, at 6am this morning I decided I felt good and I needed to get this race complete. So my husband  loaded up my son and strapped on his garmin for me, I pinned on my race bib, and we headed out to the park. Now. I have not run 4 miles since I ran the 10k back in June. In fact, I don't think I've run more than 3 miles since then. Between the traveling, the heat, and then being sick I just have not. I was nervous about completing this race.

From the start I was hurting. I have been surprised at how uncomfortable it is to run being pregnant this time around. I am only 5 months pregnant now, but I found it much more difficult to run today than I remember it being when I ran with my first pregnancy. Everyone tried to tell me if would be harder to run throughout my second pregnancy (even though I ran the entire 9 months of my first) but I thought they were wrong. Turns out they were all right. It IS harder and more painful. Ok, welcome to the end of my thought process. The entire 4 miles was quite painful...it took me about 54  minutes to run the 4 miles (can you say glacial pace?). But I did it, I ran the entire way and finished the 4M race.

It remains to be seen how much longer I will be able to do this. I have a 5k scheduled in August, followed by a 4M plus the Fifth Avenue Mile in September...it's going to be a long 4 months to the ultimate finish line.

Run to Music Class

My son had a music class this morning at a friend's apartment building that is about 2 miles away. I thought this would be a great opportunity for some running! I decided to (speed) walk there because I didn't want to be all nasty during the class, but I packed my running clothes. So. Once the class and play time were complete, I changed my clothes, loaded up my son with his lunch on the go and headed over to the Greenway to run home. The weather was nice and I felt pretty good...it's also nice that the Greenway is flat, ha! I ran all the way home, pushing over 50 pounds mind you, for a total of 2.3 miles (+ the 2 mile walk down there). I would call that a good day for this prego!

Well, I Tried...

My intention was to run to a scheduled play date at a playground about a mile away and run home for a 2 mile run...well I ran there, had a great play date with friends, but ended up walking home...so yes total mileage was 2 miles, but I only ran 1 of them. Oh well.

Hudson River Run

The oppressive heat has finally made its exit here in NYC. Last week was brutal. This afternoon, I thought it might be fun to take my son out on a bike ride over to the Hudson River, so I laced up my shoes and my husband took his bike with the bike seat and we took off. The weather was nice, with a pretty stiff breeze actually. We made our way across the West side to Riverside and ran along the Greenway. My son had a blast throwing sticks into the river on a pit stop, then we headed back home. I ran a total of 2.1 miles. If I had run the distance from home to the River it would have been an even 3, so I think I'd like to try this route running the entire route so I get 3 miles and my son gets extra riding time.

A Little Run More

Today was much like yesterday, in terms of the heat and my short jaunt around the reservoir...today I managed to eek out 2.4 miles. Whew!

A Little Run

I finally felt like I could attempt a short run today...although I must mention that NYC is in the midst of a horrible heat wave (heat indices of 110+ degrees!). I managed a 2.2 mile run around the reservoir. I will take that!

NOT a Race Day

So, I was supposed to run a 4M race in the park today, which not only would contribute to my NYC Marathon 9+1 entry, but also was to serve as the 4th race of this pregnancy. Well, of course after the week I've had, culminating in the hospital last night, I was not about to attempt a race. It really bothers me when I register for a race that I cannot run...in fact this is the 2nd or 3rd time ever that I have had to do this. It's deflating...but I know it is the best thing for me and the baby. I am managing the kidney stone pain and hoping to get back out on the road soon.

OH!

Oh, I have to go to the hospital tonight? Oh, I may have an infection that will  harm the baby? Great. Just great.

(enter 6 hours in the OB triage for testing)...

No infection (whew!), baby is fine (perfect really)...I have kidney stones. Again. Great. At least the baby is fine...who knows when I will be able to run again (*sighs*). Did I mention I have a race tomorrow? Yea, not doing that.

Still Sick

Going to the doctor today, as I am not feeling any better...worse really. This is nerve wracking being pregnant...I just want to be well...hang in there little kiddo!
